When was Tết In Seattle created?
In 1996, four organizations, Helping Link, UW VSA, Hội Võ Thuật Thiếu Niên Tacoma, and Liên
Ðoàn Hướng Ðạo Việt Hùng, worked together to conceive of Tết In Seattle.
The goal was to create a venue for the Vietnamese community to together celebrate Tết Nguyễn
Ðán, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. By mid-1998, Tết in Seattle became its own
organization and was ran by an Organizing Committee, which is made up of
individuals who volunteered as a member of Tết In Seattle. Some
individuals from the four organization continued their involvement with their
organizations as well as with Tết In Seattle.Tết In Seattle is also known as
TIS (tee-eye-ess)

Is Tết In Seattle a non-profit organization?
Tết In Seattle is a non-profit organization. TIS was awarded 501(c)(3) status in 2002.
Where does Tết In Seattle get its funds?
TIS is made possible only by the generous donations and grants from the community. We receive funding from various sources including personal
and business donations, grants. TIS also generate funds by providing
corporations and businesses with sponsorship packages, by selling booth spaces
during the festival, and by selling ticket to the Thính Phòng program in those
years which Thính Phòng is held. Additionally, as part of Seattle Center's Festal,
which is a year-round celebration of different cultural festivals, we receive a
small festival grant and in-kind donation from the Seattle Center in the use of
its facilities. Throughout the year, TIS volunteers raise funds by participating in community events such as working at Seahawk Football Games. All proceeds go to the organizational costs, administrative costs, marketing costs, fees and honoraria.
TIS aims to produce quality programs that are within our annual operating
budget. We continually review our projected income and expenses with the
intent of balancing our budget and remain in the "black" at the end of each
festival fiscal year. Any net gain at the end of a festival fiscal year is rolled-over to the next year as seed money to develop new programs in the future. If you are interested in supporting us, please email us at volunteer@Tếtinseattle.org.
